Cinesnaps Albany Schools Program 1

2021 Runner Up for Years 10-12 Josh Clark from Albany, with Jury Chair Joel Jackson

The Cinesnaps Albany Program 2022 was a great success!

Looking back to April 2022…What a wonderful CinefestOZ Albany we enjoyed in April, with hundreds of students from schools in Albany and the wider Great Southern region. Thank you to all who participated – we hope you enjoyed the experience from film guests visiting your school as well as engaging with great Australian films with Q&As afterwards.

Students also got involved in the Kinjarling Koort held on the Saturday in the Town Square.  This free community event featured IndigifestOZ and also showcased local Albany filmmaking talent.  Students volunteered and ran a green screen booth, plus undertook internships with the festival.  Some of the students also assisted attendees to experience virtual reality with the Indigenous short film ‘Virtual Whadjuk’.

What is Cinesnaps all about?

Cinesnaps is about students developing an appreciation of the filmmaking process, as well as the role film, as a digital medium, plays in our culture. Cinesnaps creates opportunities to grow future audiences for Australian film, as well as encouraging the next generation of aspiring young industry professionals. Check out the Student Short Film competition too!
Other opportunities for Primary and Secondary students include Australian films screened at select cinemas, filmmaker Q&As, plus incursion and excursion experiences. The program aims to enhance the skills of regional young people by targeting key aspects of the curriculum (English, Media, Drama, Digital Technologies and HASS), through the creative processes of film and associated STEM areas. These can expand long-term educational outcomes for regional students as the program creates activities relevant to their studies. Proudly supported by Community Partner Rio Tinto, and Partner WA Museum, Cinesnaps engages students and education professionals during Festival Week – and beyond! Why not hear how teachers, students and film guests rated the experience, by viewing the Testimonials!
