CinefestOZ 2017 Community Screening program announced

CinefestOZ Film Festival is pleased to announce our 2017 Community Screenings program – a true celebration of West Australian film content. The program features stunning WA landscapes, familiar local stories and works from talented West Australian creatives.

The films will be screened at a central Busselton location, Dunsborough Districts & Country Club, Nannup Town Hall, Margaret River Library, Bunbury Regional Art Galleries and Augusta Community Resource Centre from 10am to 4pm, August 24-27.

Here’s the 2017 lineup:


Paper Planes
An imaginative children’s film about a young Australian boy’s passion for flight and his challenge to compete in the World Paper Plane Championships in Japan. The film stars Ed Oxenbould, Sam Worthington and David Wenham.

Satellite Boy
Pete lives with his grandfather in an old abandoned outdoor cinema in the desert. When the old drive-in is threatened with demolition, ten year old Pete takes off to the city with his best mate Kalmain, to save his home.

Last Cab to Darwin
When Broken Hill cab driver Rex is told he doesn’t have long to live, he sets out on an epic journey through the Australian Outback to Darwin in a bid to die on his own terms.

Red Dog
Based on the legendary true story of the Red Dog who united a disparate local community while roaming the Australian outback in search of his long lost master.

Red Dog: True Blue
An iconic Australian story of family, friendship and adventure, between a young boy and a scrappy one-of-a-kind dog that would grow up to become an Australian legend.

The Boys are Back 
Directed by our 2017 CinefestOZ Jury Chair, Scott Hicks, The Boys Are Backtells the tale of a sports writer who becomes a single parent in tragic circumstances.

Looking for Grace
After a teenage girl named Grace goes missing, her parents – along with the help of an investigator – seek to find her, while also juggling their own secrets and stories between them.

Cinesnaps Short Film Finalist films
A showcase of short films created by aspiring South West student filmmakers. Students have created short films based on the 2017 theme, ‘The Birthday Card’.
