The CinefestOZ Albany festival was jam-packed with film and festival goodness, there were so many fabulous moments, it’s hard to pick our favourite!

Highlights that stood out to us included the Opening Night screening of June Again at Orana Cinemas Albany. Producer Jamie Hilton gave a fascinating and insightful Q&A post screening hosted by ABC Great Southern’s, Tim Wong-See.

Friday saw Albany schools visiting the festival for schools screenings of Maya the Bee: The Honey Games as well as Jaimen Hudson: From Sky to Sea. Jaimen was inundated with amazing questions from students in the post screening Q&A as he captured the attentions of high school students.

H is for Happiness Film Locations Bus Tour and the sold out Homespun World Premiere were also the standout events for Friday. It was amazing to see so many great local productions come to life that featured amazing local talent, including Bec Bignell of Homespun. The Deadly Indigenous Shorts were fantastic as we heard from a terrific panel of Indigenous film guests including Jub Clerc and Jodie Bell.

On Saturday we dived into the Industry Spotlight: The Role of Film in Tourism which explored the impressive professional life of Ian Brodie and information on the SetJetters app.

The In Conversation Lunch at Monty’s Leap was unforgettable; set at a gorgeous winery that overlooks rolling hills and vineyards, we were even lucky enough for Albany to turn the weather on for sunny blue skies! The discussions between Hollywood actress and filmmaker, Kate Walsh and host Ben O’Shea kept us enthralled and entertained.

CinefestOZ Albany Closing Night was a fantastic celebration of short film and included the premiere of Aboriginal Warrior, produced by Brooke Collard and directed by Gary Hamaguchi. Dancing, festivities and fun were had late into the night as we saw the close of the festival at Albany Entertainment Centre.
