Incursions & Excursions
Incursions
Each year CinefestOZ offers schools an exciting selection of film-related sessions and Q&As (such as filmmaking, VR, costume & stage production, scriptwriting, short film, music video production, casting and acting) tailored specifically to an age and area of schools’ State and/or national curriculum. These are run by various film guests visiting the festival and aim to making a significant impact on the participant’s creative process.
Incursions are usually held on school premises, however, after-school options can be arranged for media or theatre groups.
School Assembly visits are also available.

Excursions
Screenings The Festival’s School Screenings present quality Australian, French and Australian co-production films to a broad range of audiences, including primary and secondary school-aged children. CinefestOZ works with South West and Great Southern schools to ensure the Cinesnaps Excursion Program offers age-appropriate films in line with the Australian Classifications Act. Each Cinesnaps excursion session includes a filmmaker who introduces the film and then provides a 30-minute Q&A at the end of the screening to answer questions from students.

School Excursions – live and online experiences available. Physical visits to cinemas and film activities during festival week, plus access to CineOnline – anytime! Visit our virtual platform CineOnline and learn more. This is available to schools through a membership subscription with diverse content that can be incorporated into school timetables at your convenience.
School Program details will be available to teachers 4-6 weeks before festival.
What does Cinesnaps offer regional students?
The program aims to enhance the skills of regional young people by targeting key aspects of the curriculum (English, Media, Drama and HASS), through the creative processes of film and associated media. These can expand long-term educational outcomes for regional students as the program creates activities relevant to their studies.
Furthermore, Cinesnaps seeks to grow future audiences for Australian film through enhanced exposure and understanding as well as actively develop the next generation of young film professionals for the Australian film industry. This is achieved by facilitating opportunities for engagement and interaction with Australian film industry professionals.
Community Sessions
Each year, a number of Community workshops and events are offered to the general public. These free or low cost initiatives are aimed at individuals interested in films and filmmaking for the wider community.

CinefestOZ’s Community Manager is available to answer queries about the Film Guest Presenter, details regarding location requirements and all other necessary arrangements. On occasion pre -or post- study worksheets for workshops may be provided to teachers. Some may require preparation activities prior to the Incursion in order to maximise the benefits of the experience.

Study Guides
With a commitment to maximising the educational value for students and professional benefits for teachers; CinefestOZ provides ATOM study guides (which are developed by the Australian Teachers of Media) to accompany the Cinesnaps Film Screenings.
Study Guides (if available) are provided in early August in PDF format. If not available prior to the screening, it will provided as soon as possible post-screening. The guides feature activities for students to do pre- and post-film excursion and provide film content analysis for teachers and students. Depending on the film content, the guides will encourage discussion around different cultures and languages plus historical, social, philosophical and political issues. The Study Guides are available free of charge.
Please note that not all schools screenings will have study guides.
