Writer | Director | Antecedents
Emma Vickery is a writer and director based in Fremantle, Western Australia. She graduated from Curtin University
with an honours degree in Screen Arts and spent the subsequent eight years travelling between Australia and
Europe working in the art department.
Her first produced screenplay, the Raw Nerve funded short film Polarised, starring Olivia Dejonge went on to
screen at Revelation, Flickerfest and St. Kilda film festivals, and win Best Australian Comedy at Sydney’s World of Women film festival.
It travelled around Australia with both WoW and the National Film and Sound Archive and was later
purchased and broadcast by SBS.
In 2019 Emma’s directorial debut, the short comedy Barry was a finalist at the Tropfest Film Festival in
Parramatta and screened at Cinefest Oz. Awarded development funding through Screenwest’s Small Screen
initiative, she is currently developing a tragicomedy web-series called Buffa, about an opera singer stuck in a
chronically ill body that has shattered her dreams.
