Karla Hart is a multi-award-winning artist, filmmaker, actor, musician, performer, speaker and teacher who is as passionate about sharing her Noongar culture as she is about shining a light on other First Nations creatives and was recently awarded West Australian of the Year 2021 in the Aboriginal category.Karla holds a 2020 International ImagineNATIVE Award, was Perth’s NAIDOC Artist of the Year in 2009 and 2017, WA Screen Award, WA Fringe Award, WA Performing Arts Award and a Deadly Award.Karla’s producing, writing and directing credits include NITV and AFL sports entertainment show Yokayi Footy series 1 and 2, documentary series Family Rules Series 1, 2 and 3 (NITV), On Country Kitchen Series 1 an 2 (NITV), Virtual Whadjuk (VR project), Nyoongar Footy Magic (NITV), Shame (ABCME), Is Sharing Caring (ABC), Angela’s Rules (NITV), Magic Quandong (ABC) and other short documentary films. To date Karla’s film credits as a writer/director/producer are over 70 full lengths episodes on television.A proud Noongar woman , Karla was raised on Goreng country in WA’s Great Southern, surrounded by her large extended family and with deep cultural knowledge.
