CinefestOZ is pleased to receive funding from Lotterywest, which will contribute to the expansion of Down South and Great Southern festival events this year.
The grant will provide up to $75,000 towards Community Days featuring IndigifestOZ in Albany, Bunbury and Busselton, uniting the community through arts and cultural experiences.
Our CEO Malinda Nixon says this boost will assist in providing benefits for filmmakers and the community alike.

CinefestOZ has a proud history of working with local community and ensuring festival events and screenings are accessible to a range of audiences.
“IndigifestOZ showcases our Indigenous filmmakers and their films. The opportunity for people to come along and meet the Indigenous filmmakers, learn more about our First Nations stories and enjoy the offerings from stallholders is an exciting one for our local communities.”
During the 2021 festival, CinefestOZ Film Festival held the first Community Day with IndigifestOZ as a pilot event on Saturday 28 August at the Busselton Tennis Club. The event involved bringing together the local community and visiting Indigenous filmmakers for the chance to experience quality First Nations Film Screenings, filmmaking activities and a chance to purchase products from Indigenous stallholders .
A unique aspect of our Albany festival this year is the Kinjarling Koort day on Saturday April 30. The title is Noongar for ‘Albany Heart’. This special community event will feature free screenings and a range of cultural activities, allowing friends and family to come together.
The Minister for Culture and Arts, Hon David Templeman MLA met with the Bunbury Advisory Committee at Stirling Street Arts Centre to present them with the Lotterywest certificate.
