World Premiere Tickets here 30 August

The Naked Wanderer In Conversation event 31 August

Bunbury locals and visitors alike will have the opportunity to walk the red carpet with the film’s stars and talent while sharing in the magic of seeing a locally-shot film come to life on the big screen. The festivities will begin at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre, with live music, drinks and canapes, followed by introductions from the filmmaker and stars. The Naked Wanderer will then be screened at the Grand Cinemas Bunbury.

There’s also The Naked Wanderer In Conversation event, which will bring audiences and the film’s creators together over a relaxed lunch for a behind-the-scenes look at this heart-warming WA-made film. We’ve also launched an exciting IP Experience, which offers two lucky winners a fun-filled down south getaway from August 30 to September 1.

Production of The Naked Wanderer first began in 2017, with British icon John Cleese shooting scenes in the UK. Filming continued last year along the South West coast, including Bunbury, Dardanup, Harvey, Yallingup and Capel, and in Lancelin, Sandy Cape and Karratha. Durlik said premiering in Bunbury during CinefestOZ made for a “full circle” moment after an early iteration of the script was read during the 2015 festival.

“We had five or six actors read the script for the film infront of an audience at CinefestOZ back in 2015,” Durlik explained. “That gave us the chance to get audience feedback and it ended up rating really well.”

The Naked Wanderer tells the story of Jake – a broken-hearted man who treks the WA coastline mostly naked for charity in a bid to win back his ex-girlfriend. The film was directed by Vue Group’s Alan Lindsay, who also produced alongside Bunbury local Helen Clucas and written by Callan Durlik, originally of Margaret River.

It stars Angus McLaren and Natasha Bordizzo alongside a stellar cast of Australian actors, with British icon John Cleese appearing as a guest star. McLaren became a household name playing Nathan in Channel 7’s popular series Packed to the Rafters while his character’s newfound love Valerie is played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo of the hit Netflix show The Society.

CinefestOZ Chair Helen Shervington said securing the world premiere of The Naked Wanderer highlighted the festival’s commitment to fostering and championing the local film industry.

“This is a film made in Western Australia by West Australians and it is an absolute honour to have it screen at a festival that shines the spotlight on and celebrates local and Australian film,” she said.
