CinefestOZ heads North for the 2024 CinefestOZ Broome!

Broome set to roll out the red ‘dirt’ carpet for First Nations Film Festival CinefestOZ Broome – Western Australia’s First Nations Film Festival presented by Goolarri Media – returns this October 24-27 with an impressive line-up including the regional premiere of Jon Bell’s award-winning psychological horror The Moogai and the World Premiere of Our Medicine from Broome director Kimberley Benjamin.

Over four days festivalgoers will enjoy film screenings and meet the filmmaker events under the stars at Sun Pictures – the World’s oldest operating picture theatre – and other iconic Rubibi/Broome locations. There will also be free industry, school and community workshops and screenings.

Goolarri Media CEO and Indigenous film producer Jodie Bell said that she was thrilled that Australia’s only annual film festival dedicated to showcasing new First Nations films from Australia, Torres Strait Islands and New Zealand – is back in Broome for its third year.

“CinefestOZ Broome is a fantastic opportunity to bring Indigenous filmmakers together to help raise the profile of First Nations stories, as well as Broome and the Kimberley’s rich cultural history, spectacular landscape and flourishing film scene that has produced screen successes such as Bran Nue Dae, The Circuit, Mad Bastards and Mystery Road 2.

“This year we again have fabulous filmmaking talent joining us at the festival including local director Kimberley Benjamin and filmmaker Karla Hart with their sensational new TV series Our Medicine, along with actor and CinefestOZ Koorda, Kelton Pell.

CinefestOZ CEO Cassandra Jordan said that we are honoured that Goolarri Media chooses to partner with CinefestOZ to celebrate and showcase First Nations’ stories on screen, connect communities and foster reconciliation in the Kimberley and beyond.

“Jodie and the team at Goolarri Media have again curated a fabulous program and if you haven’t had the opportunity to experience CinefestOZ Broome previously I would encourage you to join us to celebrate this incredibly rich culture through the powerful medium of film, and in such a beautiful part
of the world.”
