Brett Popplewell is an Emmy and AACTA-nominated producer with over 35 years of experience in premium television and film across Australia, the U.S., and international markets. With more than A$800 million in production value and over 500 hours of scripted content, he has worked with every major Australian commissioner and helped bring high-profile U.S. and UK projects to local screens. His diverse slate includes acclaimed series like Heartbreak High, Wentworth, The Starter Wife, Salem’s Lot, and the AFI-winning Bastard Boys, which he co-created. His film credits include Daybreakers, Bait 3D, Sanctum (co-produced with James Cameron), and the Deepsea Challenge 3D documentary for Cameron and National Geographic. 

Since joining Fremantle in 2016, Brett has overseen and produced key titles including Hoges, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Significant Others, Rock Island Mysteries, and Bay of Fires. Appointed Head of Drama for Australia in 2021, he now oversees scripted strategy and development for local and international productions . Under his leadership, Fremantle became an industry leader in safe production practices during the COVID-19 pandemic. Known for his creative ambition and global outlook, Brett continues to shape Australia’s screen storytelling with projects that are bold, distinctive, and culturally resonant.
