Dawn Jackson
Filmmaker
POINTE is Perth based artist and filmmaker Dawn Jackson’s first feature documentary. Dawn was a dancer with West Australian Ballet before joining Kalika Dance Company, where she trained in Indian Classical Dance and contemporary performance. In 2011, she received a prestigious Future Moves Mid-Career Fellowship, which furthered her intercultural practice and performances in Canada, India, Singapore, and the UK. Dawn has produced a series of short dance works, including Kohl, Blush, Hummingbird, and Cotton.
Dawn studied a Masters in Film at the WA Screen Academy. There she directed short films Jennifer’s Coming Home (2014) nominated for Best Student Film and Zara’s World (2014) Winner Channel 9 Judges Award for Best Student Documentary. In 2013 she undertook a producing and directing attachment with Closer Productions and worked on the film, I Want to Dance Better at Parties. She directed the short film Fathom (2017) before starting the journey to making POINTE.
