Ian Hale

Ian Hale is a seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience in the Australian film industry having worked in all aspects of the industry, from film distribution to logistics, sales, marketing, publicity, promotions, exhibition, Executive producing and post-production, Ian has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field.
Ian’s experience in film distribution includes a 20 year tenure at Paramount Pictures, Transmission Films, Universal Pictures and and Dreamworks Animation as the State Branch Manager for WA/SA/NT from 1993 to 2013. Here he was responsible for overseeing all sales, marketing, publicity/promotions, liaising with cinema chain exhibitors and implementing national sales and marketing strategies.
In 2013 Ian started The Backlot Perth, a private cinema and event space that houses a world-class post-production space for editing, colour grading and sound mixing and as Managing Director has supported the West Australian film industry. In 2021 Ian started his own distribution company HALO Films as Managing Director in support of West Australian films and has now established cinema partnerships in Perth, Regional WA, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
Having also now served as an Executive Producer of several feature films, including, (5 times AACTA nominee The Furnace) Ian has established himself as a respected figure in the Australian film industry including serving as the Chairman of the Revelation Perth International Film Festival Board of Directors from 2013 to 2023. Under his support, the festival has grown to attracting 12,000 patrons.
Ian has also made significant contributions to the community as the recipient of the West Australian Rotary Volunteer of the Year Award in 2015, West Australian Cinema Pioneer of the Year award in 2022 awarded by the National body, has served as a Director of the West Australian Motion Picture Benevolent Fund for over 25 years supporting industry persons in need of financial assistance and provides mentorship to filmmakers and plays a significant role in fostering the development of the screen industry in WA.
Ian is also currently the Australian/New Zealand Sales Manger for Netflix distributing their theatrical cinema releases through Films at 42.
